The City of Oxford Silver Band : Senior Band
Our ‘Senior Band’ plays throughout the year at venues across the county as well as at contests organised by ODBBA, and the London and Southern Counties Region of the National Championships.
If you are already playing your instrument to a reasonable standard, or have played with brass bands previously do get in touch.
Learning With Us
We provide tuition and an opportunity for musicians of all ages and abilities to play within a friendly, fun and supportive learning environment.
The Training Band is for players of all ages who are developing into competent musicians and want the opportunity to play more challenging music. In Training Band a range of music is played; from shows, films, classical, traditional and modern, big band and music written specifically for brass bands. The Training Band has a uniform which is worn when the band plays in public. The Training band has engagements throughout the year and plays at our family concert twice a year.
Our Beginners Band is for players who can play a scale of C major on their brass instrument and are able to recognise some musical notes. Beginners Band is primarily about learning to play as part of a group of musicians and having fun in the process! Along the way, players improve their musical knowledge, ability and their tone. Players learn to follow a conductor and to play different musical styles.
Our Reception Class offers 1:1 or small group tuition for children, young people and adults who are starting to learn a brass instrument for the first time.
The band offers subsidised 1:1 music lessons with a specialist brass tutor for all members.
All bands rehearse on Monday evenings at the Silver Band Hall, Temple Road, Cowley, Oxford, OX4 2EZ, with first lessons and beginners band starting at 6pm in the rehearsal rooms; the training band start at 6pm in the main bandhall and the senior band start at 7.30pm.
