Friday 11 February 1887

The history of the band states that AJ Taylor Alfred Taylor, a Headington Carpenter forms the Headington Brass Band with his three sons John, Fred and Dan and eight other men, including Tom Tolley, Walter Gallaway, Paddy Burke and Tom Maisey. Victor Sugden in An Oxford Diary gives an exact date of 11 February 1887 but provides no source.

Odd Fellows’ Anniversary

Saturday 4 June 1887

HEADINGTON. Odd Fellows’ Anniversary.—The Royal Havelock Lodge of Odd Fellows held their annual dinner at the Britannia Inn on Whit-Tuesday. The members assembled in the morning, and headed by the Headington Brass Band marched in procession to the village church, where an appropriate sermon was preached by the Vicar (Rev. E. F. Tyndale). At 1.30 about 70 sat down to an excellent dinner, provided by Host Wild, the chair being taken by the Vicar. An adjournment was afterwaids made to the grounds, where sports and dancing brought to a close a most successful anniversary.

The celebration of the Queen's Jubilee was held in a field in this village on Wednesday, the proceedings commencing with a dinner at two o'clock in a large marquee... During the dinner and in the afternoon the Headington Brass Band played selections.
